Dark color for Sangiovese, a dense and concentrated ruby with some purple hints. Quite closed on the nose, with the impression of barriques adding a smoky sheen. Palate rich, dense, and tannic, with less oak than is apparent on the nose but still marked dryness and extraction. Firm and quite tannic, this needs at least another five years in bottle.
Deep garnet; ruby core to tawny rim. Mature, with oak notes and mature, prune-like fruit; quite closed. Full body, fairly astringent, with a bitter, slightly volatile finish.
Quite deep, not quite opaque, with oranging rim. Restrained nose, but ripe, plummy fruit on palate; firm, almost drying, tannins; and a strong acid presence. Very “Sangiovese,” if currently closed, and needs time: 2015–25. Hard to say if it will blossom or remain tough.
