Chasselas: a Swiss terroir revealer

From: 10 May 2019 10:00 AM To: 10 May 2019 12:00 PM
Venue: IMW HQ, 6 Riverlight Quay, London SW11 8EA

This event will be hosted by IMW Supporter Swiss Wine and will showcase the subtleties of Swiss terroirs.

Sommelier Michele Caimotto will present three pairs of Chasselas wines produced in three different regional terroirs on behalf of Swiss Wine: Valais, Vaud and the Three Lakes; followed by a vertical tasting of two Chasselas wines from two reputed winemakers over three vintages: 2001, 2010 and 2016.

Chasselas is a defining white grape for Switzerland as it represents a quarter of its total production. José Vouillamoz, ampelographer and co-author of Wine Grapes writes, “Chasselas is an icon for French-speaking Switzerland, Chasselas is a very old variety originating in the Lemanic Arc (north of Lake Geneva), where it was already known under the name of Fendant in the 17th century.”
