Venue: The Bloomsbury Hotel, 16-22 Great Russell St, Bloomsbury, London, WC1B 3NN, United Kingdom

On Tuesday 19th March 2019 from 11am to 3pm, Greyfriars Vineyard will launch the new Blanc de Noirs NV and preview the 2018 still wines.

Following on from the launch of the 2015 Cuvée Royale last spring, the Blanc de Noirs NV is the second wine in Greyfriars’ Prestige Cuvée range. Only 3,800 bottles have been made.

Made from 60% Pinot Noir from 2015 and 40% Pinot Meunier from 2014 the grapes were hand picked, whole bunch pressed and tank fermented before being put through malolactic fermentation. This wine has had more than three years on the lees and cork.

The wines of Greyfriars Vineyard are made by the Wagstaff family, on the south facing chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back in Puttenham, just outside Guildford in Surrey. A small number of vines were first planted at Greyfriars in 1989 but now the vineyards span almost 50 acres across two sites.

Hilary and Mike Wagstaff purchased Greyfriars in 2010 and have since turned a ‘hobby’ scale vineyard into a commercial business producing award-winning sparkling wines. They now tend to 63,000 vines, have a state-of-the-art winery and a 3,500 square foot chalk cave. It is their goal to produce 70-100,000 bottles a year by 2020 and encourage the British public to drink a lot more English Sparkling Wine.

The style of Greyfriars wine reflects the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs.
