The world's most celebrated event for Burgundy wines is now coming to Stockholm, Sweden. After nearly 20 years as a forum for wine lovers across the globe, La Paulée Nordic is now held in Stockholm for the first time.
Organized by sommelier Jonas Sandberg and produced in collaboration with La Paulée de New York creator Daniel Johnnes, La Paulée Nordic will take place on April 7th, 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden, in the appropriately grand setting of restaurant Operakällaren. It will be a full day of tastings, seminars and a gala dinner as the culmination of this inaugural La Paulée Nordic, featuring a tasting menu created by Chef des Cuisines Stefano Catenacci and an all Burgundian wine pairing. Guests are also encouraged to bring bottles from their own cellar to drink and share in the spirit of La Paulée.
La Paulée is a Burgundian celebration held at the end of the grape harvest each year. Revived in 1923 by Jules Lafon, one of Burgundy's most respected wine growers, it’s part of Les Trois Glorieuses, "the three glorious days", that take place around Beaune on the third weekend of each November.
Since 2000 the La Paulée tradition has found a second home in the US, held each year in New York and San Francisco respectively. It’s hosted by Daniel Johnnes, the founder of La Paulée de New York and San Francisco, and Wine Director of Daniel Boulud's Dinex Group. The event brings together growers, producers, collectors and the finest sommeliers in the world to celebrate the great wines of Burgundy. Program for April 7th, 2018:
11.00-12.30; Seminar led by Daniel Johnnes. At Operakällaren, Verandan.
Burgundy - a traditional region in a time of great change
Burgundy is a region of rich and colorful history, and also one of the most traditional wine producing areas in the world. Many producers have used largely the same practices for generations, fine tuning it to fit their specific terroir. There is arguably no other wine producing region so intimately linked to the whims of weather during the growing season, making vintage variation a crucial factor. During this seminar we taste the vintages 2014 and 2015 in a comparative tasting, highlighting the differences in these two very distinct years in Burgundy. We will also touch on some of the other challenges facing Burgundy, a traditional region in a rapidly changing wine world.
The seminar will be held in English.
2.00-3.30; Tasting led by Daniel Johnnes. At Operakällaren, Verandan.
Burgundy’s top producers over deliver in humble appellations
Burgundy’s greatest wine producers have long provided us with some of the greatest taste experiences the wine world can offer. Those same producers also makes amazing wines from more humble appellations that often outperform its origins. It’s not uncommon that a generic or Village wine delivers a far greater experience than a Premier Cru or even Grand Cru from a lesser grower. Daniel Johnnes guides us through this tasting where we will taste some of the best examples of these over achievers from the regions top producers.
The tasting will be held in English.
6.30; La Paulée Nordic Gala Dinner. Operakällaren, the Dining Room.
The Gala Dinner
Welcome to the culmination of La Paulée Nordic. The Gala Dinner is an homage to the harvest feast held in Meursault, Burgundy in November every year. We invite you to join us for a sparkling aperitif followed by a tasting menu paired with an all Burgundy wine selection. In the true spirit of the original La Paulée, all guests are welcome to bring bottles from their own wine cellars to drink and share with their fellow comrades. Wine service will be carried out by some of the top sommeliers of the Nordic countries under the supervision of Jonas Sandberg and Daniel Johnnes to ensure your wines are handled with the utmost care throughout the evening. Come and join us in this festive celebration of Burgundy wines, and all that is good!
