St James’s Street Fine Wine Merchant Justerini & Brooks is delighted to announce that, as of 1st June 2017, it will act as exclusive UK Distributors for Champagne Philipponnat. The new partnership, which amounts to over 750 years of combined experience in wine, will see Justerini & Brooks bring the Philipponnat range to both private clients and the on- and off-trade across the UK.
Press and trade tastings of the whole range will take place in June. In the Autumn Justerini & Brooks will be hosting the world exclusive launch of the highly anticipated 2008 vintage of the iconic Clos des Goisses – Champagne’s original truly great single vineyard bottling.
Since its inception in 1749, Justerini & Brooks has built an iconic reputation for providing an unrivalled level of service for the discerning collector. For the past 268 years Justerini & Brooks have utilised their knowledge, access and expertise to navigate, educate and grow generations of wine aficionados.
Relationships sit at the heart of Justerini & Brooks; over the course of two-and-a-half centuries the company has fostered treasured relationships with many of the world’s greatest wine producers. These long-standing associations with celebrated properties have allowed Justerini & Brooks to reach, nurture, and celebrate hidden gems from these regions and chateaux; bringing a highly-tailored, unique, and varied offering to their clientele.
Champagne Philipponnat, located in Mareuil-sur-Ay, grows 20 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Ay, Mareuil and Avenay. The winery is just few yards away from the iconic Clos des Goisses on the river Marne, and above the 18th century cellars of the Chateau de Mareuil, where bottles are still aged and riddled manually. It is one of the last Champagne houses to be run by a member of its founding family and under the guidance of Charles Philipponnat since 2000, the estate has seen a huge surge in quality. Always revered for the quality and longevity of their single vineyard Clos des Goisses, Philipponnat now boasts an entire range of top level champagnes. The house is renowned for capturing the vibrant density of Pinot Noir, perhaps the essence of the Philipponnat style.
“We believe our wines have reached the level of quality expected by the most discerning customers. With their experience of talking to the world’s most knowledgeable collectors, and passion for sourcing so many of the world’s greatest wines, Justerini & Brooks seemed logically the right people to handle our distribution. We are convinced that signing with them is a natural step in taking Champagne Philipponnat to the next level,” said Charles Philipponnat, CEO Champagne Philipponnat
Julian Campbell, Champagne buyer at Justerini & Brooks commented:
“We are thrilled to be representing Champagne Philipponnat exclusively in the UK and delighted to be adding them to our portfolio of leading Domaines. As a house, Philipponnat represents so much that chimes with the Justerinis ethos and mentality; the core of the matter being an irrepressible appetite for perfection. These are champagnes with style, personality and a real sense of place. As a house they are big enough to ensure remarkably consistent levels of quality, yet small enough to be driven by boutique levels of care and attention. The range is both varied and complete, the winemaking team constant but never static. A huge amount of work has been done in the last decade on the quality and length of ageing of the reserve wines and the results, particularly in the incredible quality of the Royal Reserve bottlings, are clear to see. Finally, as if all that wasn’t enough, you have the jewel in the crown, Clos des Goisses, perhaps Champagne’s most remarkable single vineyard, and undoubtedly one of Champagne’s most illustrious bottlings.”
Justerini & Brooks will be importing the full range, but focussing on Royal Reserve Brut and Non Dosé NV, Royale Réserve Rose NV, Vintage Blanc de Noirs, Vintage “1522”, and the wines from the Clos de Goisses vineyard.
