The Gage is one of Chicago's iconic and favored restaurants situated at South Michigan Avenue. Its name is derived from the Gage Group of buildings, which were constructed in the late 1800s, and are now historical landmarks.
Chef Christopher Gawronski began his career in Columbus, and over the past decade has worked in Los Angeles at several acclaimed and Michelin-starred restaurants, cooking alongside many talented chefs. Overseeing the wine program at The Gage is Jon McDaniel, who was a finalist in the Central Region for the Top Sommelier by the Guild of Sommeliers in 2013.The Gage has a number of accolades to its name, including the Award of Excellence (2016), so it is no surprise that it has gone on to claim a prestigious three-star award in the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017.
The wine list has been well-presented and includes various notes on many of the pages to assist diners, including sparkling wine suggestions for a variety of gourmet dishes. Judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017 commented that the list included playful explanations, was simple, and presents a “good whisky and beer selection”.
