Another superb luxury resort from Constance Hotel and Resorts, Constance Prince Maurice is a collection of suites and villas designed by architect Jean-Marc Eynaud and designer David Edwards set amid “lush tropical greenery” in Mauritius. The five star hotel opened its doors in 1998, and was named after Prince Maurice Van Nassau, Stadhouder (Governor) of Holland, who was the pioneer of the spice trade in the Indian Ocean.

Housed in its own building close to the resort’s Archipel restaurant, the Constance Prince Maurice wine cellar contains more than 25,000 bottles, which the judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists 2015 found to be “full of classic European choices” backed up with an “excellent selection from the New World, and particularly South Africa.”

As senior judge Alder Yarrow said, “There’s some depth in areas that you wouldn’t expect from a hotel of this kind, older vintages of Trimbach Clos Ste-Hune, for example, seven different Jura wines, 15 vintages of Beaucastel.”

“It’s Brooklyn goes to Mauritius,” added Francis Percival, “There are lots of wines I’d like to drink.”

The wine list at Constance Prince Maurice provides good selections of worldwide wines in half-bottles, magnums, jeroboams, and methusalems, not to mention good by-the-glass options in two different sizes 12 or 18cl, encompassing Petite Arvine, Gérald Clavien, 2012, Switzerland, and Chablis, Domaine Long-Depaquit, 2013, France.
