That the Restaurant Petrus at the Island Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong has a very special wine list was clear to the judges at the 2014 World’s Best Wine Lists awards: it was a worthy winner of the inaugural Best Wine List in Asia.
The 2015 judges were no less impressed, their admiration beginning with the very first bins: A collection of vintages from the restaurant’s namesake Pomerol estate, from 2007 to 1928. This, however, is only the beginning, just a small part of an impressive collection of big-name Bordeaux and Burgundy that also includes multiple vintages of Latour and Haut-Brion back to 1929, of Lafite-Rothschild to 1949, Margaux to 1924, and Mouton-Rothschild to 1928.
But there’s much more to Restaurant Petrus than an array of collector’s dream wines that also includes many fine and rare vintages from Burgundy, the Rhône, Champagne, Piedmont, and Tuscany. As the judges said, whatever your budget “it has everything you need,” whether that’s an imaginative collection of kosher wines or an Italian Ribolla Giala from Friuli.
